During the past months, we have been watching the 969 campaign gone in complete The "hacktivist" group MMCF (Myanmar Muslim Cyber Force) sent this video to Ma.Ba.Tha (ဗုုဒၶဘာသာအမည္ခံကာ မ.ဘ.သ အမ်ိဳးဘာသာသာသနာေစာင့္ေ႐ွာက္ေရးအဖြဲ႔) Groups , we MMCF declare a cyber-war against to မ.ဘ.သ , also known as the "969 Campaign" .
As Myanmar grapples with its transition to democracy, its Muslim minority is experiencing its perils in vivid, bloody fashion. Hundreds have died since last 4 year.
In the Burmese streets, stickers sporting the numbers “969” are flourishing on moto-taxis, shop windows, betel nut carts… Those three ominous figures are the symbol of a fast-rising Buddhist pride movement, presenting itself as a return to Buddhist roots and the teachings of the Lord.
But, in the new Myanmar, 969 is actually a vehicle of anti-Muslim hatred and Buddhist brainwashing.
“Muslims are fundamentally bad. Mohammed allows them to kill any creature. Islam is a religion of thieves, they do not want peace”, declares Ashin Wirathu the saffron-robed monk nicknamed the “Burmese Bin Laden”
Far from the iconic images of the 2007 “Saffron Revolution”, popular Buddhist monks like Wirathu are travelling the country, preaching in front of thousands, urging Buddhists to boycott Muslim businesses, to avoid marrying them, hiring them or to sell property to them. The 969 movement is appealing to a deep anti‐Muslim resentment implanted in Buddhist minds by fifty years of military propaganda. Like millions of fellow Burmese Buddhists grew up as a proud racist.
By depicting a Myanmar on the verge of an islamist invasion, the 969 movement is creating a framework for the wave of islamophobic violence that has swept through Myanmar in the last months. In March, the bloodiest clashes up-to-date claimed the lives of many people in around the country included Second largest city Mandalay.
Afraid of alienating the Buddhist vote for the 2015 elections, the democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi is staying silent on this subject. Many see, behind 969 and the religious riots, the hand of hardliners of the army trying to endanger the fragile change Myanmar is going through as the country stumbles towards democracy.
The 969 movement now enjoys support from senior government officials, establishment monks and even some members of the opposition National League for Democracy (NLD), the political party of Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
President Thein Sein is signaling a benign view of 969, too. His office declined to comment for this story. But in response to growing controversy over the movement, it issued a statement , saying 969 "is just a symbol of peace" and Wirathu is "a son of Lord Buddha."
Two outbursts in Rakhine State last year killed at least 192 people and left 140,000 homeless, mostly stateless Rohingya Muslims.
In March this year, at least 44 people died and 13,000 were displaced - again, mostly Muslims - during riots in Meikhtila, a city in central Myanmar. Reuters documented in April that the killings happened after monks led Buddhist mobs on a rampage.
Muslims held many senior government positions after Myanmar gained independence from Britain in 1948. That changed in 1962, when the military seized power and stymied the hiring and promoting of Muslim officials. The military drew on popular prejudices that Muslims dominated business and used their profits to build mosques, buy Buddhist wives and spread Islamic teachings.
