This footage was filmed on 27th November 2014… Exactly three years on from our first date.
I (Lois) kicked off the day by taking Lexi to the bar where we spent the evening of our first date. I’d reserved the same table we sat at, and had secretly asked them to play “our song” Time After Time. They did. (Thanks Sian!) Lexi cried... So far, so good! I walked her back to the underground station, and off we went to Hyde Park, just like three crazy years ago.
Lexi had no idea that she was being filmed all day by my friends - Kiefer and Matt. I’m so impressed with those sneaky buggers. Seeing them every now and again in the corner of my eye, and trying not to laugh was tough!
Hand in hand, we wandered about, drank hot cider, watched the rides go around, played some games, met a penguin, ate some pizza and saw the frozen sculptures in the subzero ice kingdom. It was awesome.
Lexi knew that there was a surprise happening that day, so I needed a decoy. I took her to the circus and treated us to a VIP box with champagne. The acts were mesmerizing; Four motorbikes riding about in a sphere cage; an incredible aerial hoop artist; A huge dude even had a truck drive over him!
Lexi loved it. Guess it’s time for us to head home…
So we’re on the tube “heading home”, but wait, this isn’t our stop??
I let Lexi believe that I just wanted to take us a different route home; To walk across that bridge like we did three years ago.
I can tell you now, at that point, I’d never been so nervous in my life. When we walked up the stairs of the bridge and I couldn’t see my friends, I could’ve died from devastation. But we walked a little further and there they were.
The guys with the bongos and guitars - They are my band mates.
The guy playing guitar and wearing a black beanie is Phil. He’s going to be my best man at our wedding.
The song I’m singing is called Lala Land. I wrote the lyrics and melody. Every line contains subjects and words from our history that make sense to Lexi. Lexi’s nickname is Lala.
The other guitarist is Chris. He wrote the guitar part. He’s a legend.
The song was recorded and produced by my big brother Dan. He’s also a legend.
The first day Lexi and I met, we had a conversation about something rude that was written on a blackboard in a public bathroom… I asked her if she’d written it… She said she hadn’t… I knew she had.
Inside the ring box was a picture with “Lola” written inside a heart on it. My nickname is Lolo.
The ring is white gold with a black diamond in between two white diamonds. Lexi’s favourite ‘colour’ is black. We will both wear white dresses on our wedding day because…
She said yes!!
(And thank f*** she did!)
A massive thank you to everyone involved in the making of this day, especially Kiefer, Matt, Nathan, Phil, Chris, Marc, Marie, Dan, and… Lexi.
