Grindr is creating those fake profiles.

jUST TO ADD... AGES....LYING ABOUUT AGE !! is it possible to allow members to join with producing an offical ID to prevent scams , fakes & minors ? maybe the new members could go to an outlet store and produce offical ID and get a joining code number. maybe a once off joining fee ? When the memebers join they could still change their age to whatever the like. At least this way it would make dating safer for all as the members would be at least of a legal age when they joined, as they would of have to produce legal offical ID.. These days it's difficult to tell the real age of some youths. I have a nephew who is 15 years old but most people think he looks 20 + with his full grown beard. If I showed you a pic you'd not think he was only 15. we need to make Grindr / dating apps safer. it's not so bad for someone older to lie about being younger than it is a minor pretending to be older, if u get me ? example : . maybe he's really 40 yo saying he's 30 yo !! ok so he's older than his real age. Big deal it was just for some hot fun !! but when a 15 yo boy says he is 18 0r 19 yo . that could land the other person in prison : / big deal ?

Several times I have been messaging somebody on Grindr only to have them say that they are not receiving my replies but they can see that I am typing. Then they suggest that I text them on regular text add a phone number that they provide.if you do this they would then have your phone number.

Have them take a picture with them holding the peace sign up. With a picture with the date on it.

I've just been kicked out of grindr a Guy threatened me and grindr did nothing now my profile is gone
Eric (3 days ago)
Grindr will not respond nor do anything! I emailed Grindr about an underage kid sending me messages and nudes. Grindr never responded to my emails! I did alert the police and the police took care of the matter. Caught the kid the next day! Shame Grindr has no problem with underage kids on their app.
Crazywaffle5150 (5 months ago)
Everyone thinks I'm fake on grinder lol.
Shelby Tittle (6 months ago)
all sites like that are ALL the same. NEVER pay for anything on those sites ! really a waste of time, money and energy. you stand a better chance of meeting someone the old fashioned way before the days of craigslist( people got murdered there by the way ) internet dating sites and apps. Since the regulation of CL and backpage who were forced to remove the personals sections it seems like more and more people are turning to places like tinder and grindr( people got killed there too by the way) and other sites to "hopefully" meet someone. Gone are the days of just seeing someone out and about and striking up a conversation. CATFISHING is the new norm now. I tried tinder and out of 200 responses 3 were actually a REAL LIVE PERSON and out of those 3 only 1 person actually showed up and he was NOT the person in the photo but some dirty old man using his grandson's photo to try and meet people ! so PLEASE be safe in meeting people off of those places and I think the tips given here for spotting fake profiles is spot on ! KUDOS to DahrkMezalf !

I saw two profiles with the exact same image, not sus at all, LOL
DahrkMezalf (8 months ago)
For real; I have a screenshot somewhere where 7/10 profiles had a name of "Pill Enlargement" or something similar. Like, seriously?
Garbage Human (10 months ago)
Also when they have and send you blurry pixelated pics
DahrkMezalf (10 months ago)
GOD, YES. Something few people point out... there's *no way* your pictures are that blurry these days unless it's some weird fake/internet screenshot. Even the most basic flip-phones these days are capable of taking a decent picture... and that's considering the fact that flip-phones are practically an antique by today's standards. Blurry pic = move on.
Question? Saw this one attractive guy message me and told me to vote for him. Then clicked on his site and showed another pic of him ass naked. Then asked for credit card info. So I was like forget it? Know I know its probaly not legit, but I was wondering if it was a robot to promote someone's his web show or just a scam to take my money?
vintageceilingfans (1 year ago)
You forgot the most common fake profiles.. #1 Pic collectors usually old men hiding behind pics of models so they can see more pics of you.. Hince that they never meet.. I'm not sure if that's called catfishing? #2 Also what about the angry ones who sit on there and demand pics so they can hit the block button.. Kinda like some angry idiot who falsely turns down other people because obviously its been done to him and he has to get revenge.. I see more of that on there than I do people trying to lure you into a scam or bot profiles..
Stefan G (4 months ago)
Thank you for your comment. This happens to me very often. They go out their way to bring you down and make you feel ugly. One time a guy said "I only find your face semi attractive". So thank you for sharing. Now I know I'm not the only one.
DahrkMezalf (1 year ago)
Very good points. I'm not sure the term for that either, but I hate those folks who try to coax pictures out of you just to block you after - whether they're collecting or just trolling, it's sad. The internet is already full of plenty of material: no need to harass other users.

Grindr is racist. blacks have no place on Grindr. it is the meeting ground for the Ku Klux Klan
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
I.. don't even know how to respond to this. Granted, people have some pretty biased "prerequisites" on social media, your comment has literally nothing to do with my video on the topic. Yes, Grinder profiles can be racist/bigoted, ala "no Asians, no fats, no fems" etc... saying that it's a meeting place for the KKK has no legitimate/cultural grounds. Sadly, it's predominately an app intended for sporadic hookups - however bigoted they may seem, I would hardly define it as a meeting grounds for the KKK, especially when so many people view ethnicity as a kink of sorts. It's still a shit-show through and through, but I wouldn't call it a meeting place for cross-burning, black-hating supremacists. After all, it's intended for gay men - if you're using it in guise, that's your own problem. I've seen far too many "straight" guys using Grindr for a hookup with gay/trans men. Talk about mixed signals and a false sense of security.
dan no (2 years ago)
do not let this happen to you i paid for a 30 days for a membership for grindr they changed me 2 more times they will not give me my money back its nice to know even they rip off the gay people
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
Interesting fact: Since moving to a big city (Seattle), I've rarely found fake profiles. So I'm pressed to believe this video is pretty pertinent to areas with less guys - seems Grindr opens the doors to fill in the blanks. Heads up, kids. And keep your wits about you.
SolidWolfG (2 years ago)
I've tried Grindr once before and hated it because of the fakery. Scruff seems to be a bit better.
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
Every social app has its nightmare trolls, but it seems anything that requires vadidation like an email or facebook link is less likely to be shady. It's too much work to code a program to bypass a lot of security, whereas Grindr is an open range at this point (hell, it's so spotty with security that people speculate if Grindr actually HELPS fake profiles get into the mix). Scruff does seem much better overall when it comes to real profiles though, yes :P
Sai Aquarius (2 years ago)
you forgot about the height being 2'3
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
Oops. Short people need love too :P That one was my favorite
Brett Mastema (2 years ago)
I find the fakes are usually over 1000 miles away and they usually will have a pattern that you can spot pretty quickly. In Los Angeles, its not unusual for guys to send images right away. It is expected if the profile doesnt have a clear image. I have never seen a bot send images. Usually they just try to get me to send them a text or message them on something. Which they usually do pretty quick and if they were real, you dont want anyone that gives it up that easy. (well maybe you do, I dont)
Lucas Stone (2 years ago)
Wow, you sound bitter, and quite frankly I don't blame you, but you don't make a very good distinction between fake profiles for such things as someone "catfishing" and bot profiles on here. I'm pretty sure the monkey's at Grindr are responsible for a lot of the bots. I reverse engineered a bit of the code from the grindr apk package on android, and found code inside it for generating "random conversations" quite frankly grindr is getting worse and worse every day.
2019 chillflix (1 month ago)
the best safest dating app would be maybe an app center. where new memebers bring offical ID to join and get a long once off code to join. not by email. this would save doubles and fakes. Ther must be another way.
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
Comically bitter, yes. And my bad - I've never had an issue with "catfishing" (in the sense of lying about who they are vs. being a bot from the start), so it's all fakery to me. And yikes.. yes, it is. Though since moving to a big city, the amount of fake profiles has dwindled to next to none. So that's interesting. Seems you're right on the coding part - fill out the empty spaces with fake profiles. Shame.
DeputyDawgAtl (3 years ago)
Btw in case you hadn't done that (just found your profile and videos) - can you do one on gay.com - which makes grindr look perfect. HOLY ____ that site is exponentially worse as far as fakes go. I'm SICK of the profiles that say that are in some U.S. city, but when you talk to them they are in reality some other country. I have become GOOD at spotting fakes so I will often reply ONLY to see how far they will take it. 1) Profiles who the guy is 5.10 and 101 lbs, 2) those whose profile talks about finding the perfect man etc etc 3) There have been few recently that were supposed to have lived in my city. We talked back and forth UNTIL i said "so do you know such and such a place" or asked where specifically they are in the city. 4) there was one guy who stated he was in Phoenix. When I said (falsely) OH really i'm going there on business in a few weeks, lets meet up (you can hear the crickets chirp) I could go on and on and on and on.. but you get the picture
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+DeputyDawgAtl Beatrice exactly! As if anyone is dumb enough to earnestly expect it'll lead to more. #ChristHaveMercy
DeputyDawgAtl (3 years ago)
+DahrkMezalf Right and as you mention then you get a link to see more, vote for them etc.. >DELETE
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+DeputyDawgAtl Beatrice I can't say I've experienced those. But I have seen my fair share of seemingly innocent conversation, until "are you free to talk" - which turns into an instant spiel about some webcam show and blah blah. It's annoying as hell!
DeputyDawgAtl (3 years ago)
You forgot about this HUGE RED FLAG: Someone messages you say an hour ago but yet their profile says they have not logged in for days. So for giggles I will send something stupid to test. Low and behold, you get an immediate response stating "boy that was quick"
DahrkMezalf (2 years ago)
+King Noodles haha there's a dozen scripted messages, but it's always a blast. Especially when it's a blurry picture and over 1000 miles away, with all lowercase spelling. Instant fake.
Anthony Stewarts (2 years ago)
omg same, but they say "lol cutie that was quick"
DeputyDawgAtl (3 years ago)
+DahrkMezalf I can't believe how gullible some guys are (no offense). Its like those who get the Nigerian email about an inheritance but need to give 10K first.. WOW
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+DeputyDawgAtl Beatrice freaking AMEN. As if a dozen Grindr guys are actually 2'4", you can't possibly send a message within an hour if you've been offline for days. The only reason they thrive is because people must be gullible enough to believe it. *smack*
Richard Conte (3 years ago)
How 'bout if some cute guy messages you and you see his profile and he is like 100 miles away. or 300 miles away. I have had a guy message me from 1,000 miles away
Brett Mastema (2 years ago)
I had a screw up with my GPS that made Grindr think I was in China (during chinese new year) I was like whats up with all the Asians near me? I knew something was off when I kept seeing Happy New Year. Thought i was losing my mind. Although it took a couple days for some to see my profile distance correctly. It was weird. My phone was showing me correct everywhere else.
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
Good point. Can't believe I forgot about that - instant red flag: blurry picture or a thousand miles away (assuming you weren't on a vacation) means spam, 99.9% of the time.
David Aikman (3 years ago)
Its sad. Seems now a days fake profiles account for 90% of the messages I receive. Deleted grindr a week ago. Haven't looked back.
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
Good! That's not something a lot of people can do easily
Sky Hawk (3 years ago)
my profile picture was abit blurry from the sizing ! but I recently rejoined because a few people mentioned it has become less sexual and more commitment ( stupid for falling for it ) and I had a message from a nice looking guy and we chatted for about a minute ?? so I thought great :D suddenly the sexual part kicked in from him I instantly deleted -_- oh grindr
Brett Mastema (2 years ago)
usually if its an actual porn star like in LA they will be a body shot or something. These days im so out of the loop who is doing porn vs who isnt.
Sky Hawk (3 years ago)
+DahrkMezalf haha to true its a funny app at times but is the easiest compared to other apps i admit but also sorry the app isnt going well for you either.
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
Exactly! I always get a kick when they sporadically send a half-dozen model-worthy pictures with no provocation. Like, hello porn stars! Clearly fakes.
Sky Hawk (3 years ago)
+DahrkMezalf that i do after a few bad eggs its easy to tell who is fake as they use the same tactics the worse is got anymore pics ??? no sod off get to know my personality dammit haha
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
It's rough and tricky for sure, navigating fakes from everyone else. Sorry it failed for ya; i still have issues, so I do my best to laugh at it and never take anything too seriously.
eqwdqw wdwqed (3 years ago)
haha i just started using grindr and a really gorgeous dude texted me named Ted.. and i was like woaah this cant be happening.. and started a normal conversation with me and i was like ok i just hit the lotto.. until he started telling me that he was horny and stuff and he likes to show off.. and he asked me if i wanted to see him jerk off and i bought it until i asked him how i will be able to see him cuz still i have no clue whats really going on on that app.. and then he texted me back.. go here www.fwwbvwbrgves.com... and i got suspicious so i googled "how to spot a fake profile on grindr'' and found out this video... thank god.. i was this close to click on that link xD for a sec i thought that he was indeed going to show off to me.. poor naive me xD forever alone...
David Aikman (3 years ago)
And I know, super creepy
David Aikman (3 years ago)
Hehe totally forgot that one lol. Got that so many times. It became so bad I deleted my account lol
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
I could write a novel based on how predictable and sad fake profiles are. But some are just so outlandish. Most recently "I see good looks must run in your family". That's.. Just creepy to say to a stranger, and makes no sense. You know my family? Nope.
David Aikman (3 years ago)
Yeah.... honestly they always have the same, predictable tag lines. "Zup?" "I like ur look." "aha I've been working out a lot lately and it makes me super hard. u?"
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+eqwdqw wdwqed Not that I'm happy you got trolled, but I'm glad I could help :P. Those bots show up anywhere you go apparently, but some places are worse than others..
ABC 123 (3 years ago)
This app sucks ass. Nothing but a bunch of fake profiles of guys advertizing videos. Maybe the grindr programmers should stop drooling over all the pics they can see and do some damn work to prevent this.
ABC 123 (3 years ago)
+DahrkMezalf The app has stage 4 cancer now. It's on it's way out unless some miracle cure comes to them. The fix is so easy but they refuse. What I don't know though is...are the fakes a product of them or not.
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+Just Aname I couldn't agree more. And it seems like one day every month it resets with a new batch of guys with the same fake messages. I doubt Grindr will be around much longer if they don't do something about the insane amount of spam and fake profiles.
Robert Crifasi (3 years ago)
grindr blocked my account and charged me the monthly fee on  the same day even after i expressly canceled the subscription.  Hooked up three times, but had to get through hundred scammers to find a real guy.  They used almost the same script, even same profile pics too.   All wanted to TEXT to my phone #.  Then sell the live phone mark to telemarketers, no doubt. Only thing it's good for is the CLAP! (no applause, pleeze). I scouted for hott guys for Adult Entertainment Inc. and the adult industry on grindr. I don't know why they blocked me, sleezy at best.
Robert Crifasi (3 years ago)
Your video is way Kool, man!  ThankYou for bringing the issue into the pubic eye...  pun intended...
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+Robert Crifasi It's terrifying how abundant and repetitive these fakes are. I seriously hope Grindr fixes these problems; some articles hint that they are working to make people verify profiles, rather than multiple anonymous ones. Thank god.
CM CM (3 years ago)
Only sad insecure people make them. must be hard to think others are better off than you. Grindr should only allow one profile per number or sell their app at a store for a dollar... I dunno some way to prevent other time wasters. It's called Perverted to spy on others.
DahrkMezalf (3 years ago)
+C.Mc Mc Agreed. I wish there was a simple way to weed out the fakes (from a developer's standpoint). I want to just sit the head honchos down and write up an angry list like this video and tell them to block the spam. It's getting ridiculous!
Johnny Fizz (4 years ago)
I am a mega fan of Catfish so I almost always use google image search and specially on my twitter-LOADS OF FAKES-Its super simple and fast at searching millions of pics with the 1 ur doubting is real or not :)
Johnny Fizz (4 years ago)
ok now 2b fair- Ashton kutcher was an underwear model and did come from my neck of the woods :) but yep not a lot of good lookers around the mid west-
Steven Alpert (4 years ago)
Spotting fakes: blurry pictures, names followed by tons of letters, several hundreds of miles away when you know they haven't found you through travels.
Steven Alpert (4 years ago)
Yea, yea, yea, yay!
