Windows Update Cannot Currently Check For Updates Because The Service Is Not Running. Fix. This issue happened to me after I upgraded my drive from a 300GB to a 1TB Toshiba drive. Note I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version on an HP laptop. Here is the link for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver (IRST) from HP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02219204&cc=nl&lc=en&dlc=en&product. If that does not work try this: IRST for Desktop Boards STOR_Win7_8_11.7.0.1013_PV.exe , dated 12/06/2012 ver 11.7.0.1013 Make sure you click on (Which file should I download) before you download the file. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22272 Here is the Intel support site for this technology: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/sftwr-prod/imsm Please pick the correct driver for your operating system Windows 7, 8 etc. and the correct architecture 32 bit or 64 bit. If you don't know which you have, Intel has a how to on that on this same page too. If all this does not work for you try the Intel® Driver Update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect *****Other Fixes For This Same Problem***** Windows Update Cannot Currently Check For Updates And Update Service Is Missing. Thanks Richard. I recently had to replace my hard drive due to a crash issue. I replaced it with a 1TB hard drive. I used my windows recovery discs to reinstall windows 7 but that meant it was converted back to factory setting from 2010. When I went to install what I knew would be a huge list of updates, Windows update would not run. I tried every fix I could find online to no avail until I watch this video. You are a lifesaver not only did you fix my update problem you probably saved my sanity. Thanks again.

If its still not working this should be the solution: Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service. Then go to the folder c: /Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders. Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again. Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.

What worked for me was very simple. I changed the schedule for my windows update to a time close to what time it was and in this case it was 15 minutes. After 15 minutes my PC started looking for updates and all was good. (:>)

We had all this on all our windows7 computers. Simply running McAfee vulnerability scanner (after installing McAfee Internet Security) gives you the option to install the latest Windows Updates. Choose these options and install with McAfee and it all works. If McAfee can give you such a simple solution in three clicks, why can't Microsoft?

wow ... this good and perfect video has helped me a little understanding. I did not expect, when I go to "services" search "windows update" then activate with "start" .. and it turns out there is active branch windows update again its name "remove procedur call (RPC) locator" then activate with "start" .. , if initially inactive or "stop" there is a description of "check for updates for your computer" or "windows could not search for new update an error occurred while checking for new updatesfor your computer error(s) found code 8024402F" then the solution exists on the "remove procedur call (RPC) locator" that is not active .. then you enable "start" note: windows update and (backup and restore) the program so one, if the windows update is damaged then the backup and restore was also damaged, so the backup and restore does not work. so thanks so much for helping me and being able to share my experience of solutions and problems with laptops and like if I like my comments

I have had this problem for the past 3 years and have tried off and on since to fix it all to no avail, tried just about every suggestion out there but nothing worked but I bumped into your video and right off the bat you described almost exactly how my problem began, cloned a failing 500GB drive to a 1TB drive and ever since Windows Update wouldn't run. Followed your advice and link and Bam! Windows Update now working again! THANK YOU for sharing your discovery!

That usually means one of three things, you do not have Intel technology on your mother board (AMD), you are trying to use a 32 bit driver on a 64 bit operating system or 64 bit driver on 32 operating system or you are trying to use the incorrect driver for your operating system (Vista driver in Windows 7) Try the auto detect here: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

@Richard Lloyd THANK YOU!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to document this solution and post this video. After a LOOOOOONG weekend failing to upgrade to Windows 10 (from my Win7 Home) on my new SDD drive in my HP Touchsmt - (ultimately the failure was Win10 display drivers not being compatible with my ATI 4000 card - wish I would have known that SOONER! - I even tried some hacky Win8 drivers, but that did not work - house of mirrors who really knows what the issue was) - but I noticed this issue with windows update (on the SSD) and once I resigned to using Win7 - I wanted it fixed! Even if there are no more updates, I just hate having a hobbled OS. YOUR VIDEO was spot on and worked PERFECTLY!!!!! Dude, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You are awesome.

Hi there, I have tried one of your solutions, but unfortunately doesn't work. My problem is that from the first formatation, I have disabled the update windows and then when I wanted to reactivate it again, it wouldn't work and have the same message that appears in this video. MY SYSTEM VERSION IS WIN7 PROFESSIONAL 32 BIT. Thank you
